She passed away peacefully at her Tennessee home, surrounded by her partner, Wade Cummins.Born in Jasper, Alabama, Sandy’s musical career began in Memphis,
where she gained fame as a session singer.
Her hit “Born a Woman” reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966, earning her a Grammy nomination.
